WWE Royal Rumble - The Complete Anthology, Vol. 4

audio problems, poor packaging, audio skipping, footage removed, jittery blurred logos, censored music, not worth the full price
honestly...this is ridiculous. the audio for all the dvd's(every one)are nothing more than crappy mono(very poor)with the sound very low & the commentators very high?. where are the dolby digital 5.1 stereo surround sound wwe dvds we are use to getting everytime. the packaging sucks badly(why not do it as with the past wrestlemania anthology with a bottom & top lid), it splits even with being careful, a lot of footage is removed outta no where(most noteably the wwf superstar line segments), you can tell of this because of the splicing job they constantly do. the audio constantly skips(jumping) when wwf is verbally mentioned, the blurred logos are jittery & shake when theres frame movements. the blurred logo's look like garbage...the blurs look like heavy ice cube blocks on the everything especially the turnbuckles(they even go as far as to blur in-between the turnbuckles...for what?????). seriously i swear in this set they censor dozens of original themes filmed at the the time of the...

Unwrapping the DVD set
I am still digging into the new boxed set, but I wanted to echo several comments about the packaging. It is indeed awkward, fragile, and ill-concieved. A piece of printed paper hold together two large heavy sides. I have pampered the case like a newborn baby and it's already about to tear. Normal wear and tear will have people buying new cases in the first month.

Beyond that....I can't wait to see all 56 hours.

The Last 5 Years Of The Rumble
2003 - I'm still wondering how WWE would have the best & worst matches in Rumble history on the same card. That was the case here as WWE Champion Kurt Angle & Chris Benoit wrestled in a classic match which many consider their best match ever...to the point to where Chris Benoit got a standing ovation after the match although he tapped out & lost. The other match was Triple H vs. Scott Steiner...the less said, the better because this was absolutely horrible. The Rumble match itself had some good moments like Jeff Hardy finally getting his hands on Matt for how he left RAW and Tommy Dreamer bringing in weapons & getting "hardcore" but the big highlight here was the storyline between Jericho & HBK with help from Christian that resulted in both of their elimination's. Brock Lesnar would go on to win it at the end (#29) after having a good match with Big Show earlier in the night.

2004 - The Chris Benoit Show would be the proper title for this Rumble as Benoit did what HBK...

Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Vol. 5

ATHF: brilliant....misunderstood?
I am the proud owner of all five seasons of ATHF on dvd and i've never been disappointed. This is not the place you'd want to start your collection, though. Start with volume 2 Aqua Teen Hunger Force Volume 2 or volume 3Aqua Teen Hunger Force - The First Three Volumes.

Volume 5 is for fans of the show only, though the Boost Mobile episode was an instant classic. The show took a bizzarre, edgy and weird-for-the-sake-of-weird turn. It's almost in the tradition of Modernist playwrights like Harold Pinter at times. The episode "Party All The Time" is more art than cartoon, and plays with your emotions more than you thought possible from a "stoner cartoon". This volume proves ATHF is smart, and loves to push the boundaries of TV and the concept of Cartoons in general.

Die hard fans will not be disappointed, but newbies should...

ATHF 5
This is a great volume of a ridiculous series. These episodes are by and far the most offensive episodes to date. If you like the other Aqua Teen volumes, you will love this one.

"PARTY PARTY PARTY I LIKE TO PARTY!"
Here we are, here it is, the controversial season, Aqua Teen Hunger Force Volume 5 (it's actually Season 4).

The episodes and my favorite lines from them:

DISC ONE:
1. Dirtfoot: "It's got blondie. Lemme tell you, where she AIN'T A BLONDE!"
Master Shake, in yet another ridiculous attempt to get laid, traps himself down a well, which Frylock and Meatwad find to have an apartment down below, where they also meet Shake's roomate Dirtfoot, a legendary monster who 'comes to terms with himself' in this episode.

2. Boost Mobile: "(Meatwad crying after Frylock tells him he doesn't have hair)"
Shake becomes a Boost Mobile ad-plugger.

3. D***esode: "Tonight you will get your d*** ripped off...that doesn't sound right does it?"
Probably one of the most controversial episodes of all time, and also one of the ones that makes this set get all the venom it does (Joyce). Carl peels the bottom of his fast food cup off, and gets...

Best Weeknight Recipes: America's Test Kitchen

ATK is awesome- taught me to cook!
I love Americas Test Kitchen. I never learned to cook until my 30s. The book and videos are great- they show you how a recipe or product goes well and how/why it doesn't. Often they explain the science behind it too! I'm a big fan. Hooray.

Great Kitchen Basic Training!
I am a big fan of cooking videos and I feel that I have learned a lot from watching them. This disk is called "Best Weeknight Recipes." While it's true that nothing prepared here is too complicated to make on a weeknight, not everything quite falls into the category of 30 minute meals. It could have also been called "Kitchen Basic Training", and that is really the reason I liked it so much. In addition to offering appetizing meal choices, the recipes teach basic kitchen techniques for a number of standard preparations. Eleven recipes are presented. If you go through them all you will learn to pan-roast chicken, pan-sear a steak or shrimp, and make skillet pork chops. You'll first brine the chicken and the pork to make them juicer when cooked. You'll make pan sauces from the bits left in the pan after cooking the beef and the chicken. There's also a simple beef and vegetable stir fry. This covers a lot of the important techniques to master when making the transition from beginning to...

Swamp Thing - The Series

What a great series!
I had totally forgotten about this great tv series. Its more like the comics than the films but has the same guy playing swamp thing. The make up effects are just as good as the movie and since they are so many episodes you really get to explore the character in a way the movie never did. Highly recommended for any super hero / comic fans. Too bad this was on in the early 90's, it probably would have been a big hit now.

FINALLY!!!
Well ive been wanting this one to come out for a long time. In high school this was one of my fave series on tv. It was a saturday night ritual along with several other shows that me and mine watched durring its run in the ninties..
Tis awsome that Alec and his buddies finally made it to dvd. The quality is good.. the transfer seems really nice and there are come color corrections to it that i never noticed on my lousy tv and on broadcast tv. Well I hope you all like it as much as I do.. Only two small gripes.. 1) lack of specail featuers(though the Dick Durrock interview was nice) and 2) how bloody long do we have to wait for the second half!!?
laters!
Angel

Mixed bag
After a campy but enjoyable first film directed by Wes Craven, and an ungodly bad sequel, Swamp Thing got himself his own live action TV series (a short-lived cartoon would follow as well), with none other than longtime stunt man Dick Durock reprising his role from the films as the tortured, muck monster. First off, it should be noted that Swamp Thing was quite low budget, but for its time, the show somehow managed to pretty much work for what it was. However, what really hurt the show was the schizophrenic writing, which would focus on Swamp Thing one minute, and then treat him as a back seat, supporting character the next. As a whole, the show was a mixed bag, yet at the same time, it managed to be pretty enjoyable. The supporting cast, which included Mark Lindsay Chapman as Swampy's old nemesis Dr. Anton Arcane, Carrell Myers as the friendly Tressa, and a young Kari Wuhrer who briefly appears as Abigail. If you enjoyed the show when it originally aired, this DVD set is worth...

Maggie and the Ferocious Beast: Rain Showers and Spring Flowers

Wonderful for children.
It took my daughter and I a couple weeks to understand what my 2 year old granddaughter continually requested. She implored us to get or turn on the roast beef show ... turns out she meant Ferocious Beast ... We have tried to collect all of them. Now the 7 year old and 2 year are arguing over which one to watch first. They love them. The beast is gentle, Maggie is cute, the stories have lessons; a good, fun time with a lovely story each time. I highly recommend especially if you have child or grandchild afraid of monsters or unseen scary things. Lilli has been terrified about monsters. Now she says they're not really scary. She knows they're like Maggie and the "roast beef" and she's not frightened anymore. : )

great pretend-play trigger!
Our whole family loves Maggie and the Ferocious Beast. Slow paced, kind, all about the love of pretend play, which is where my 3-year old is at these days. The only problem is she doesn't want to watch anything else anymore, so looks like I have to buy some more Maggie DVD's as the repetition is getting to the older members of our family.

Not just for children, but for the whole family to enjoy.
I may be 20 years old, but I still love Maggie and the Ferocious Beast today. I really enjoy watching this DVD. It's has a couple my favorite episodes. I used to watch this series on Nick Jr. and it's reruns on Noggin. Until last year it has been cut off. "Rain Showers and Spring Flowers" is my only Maggie and the Ferocious Beast DVD that I have in my collection. I hope to get the other 4 soon. I believe they contain all of the episodes.

The Best of America's Test Kitchen

Practical, fun, and worth its weight in chicken cutlet
I checked this DVD out of the library, then decided I needed to own my own copy. It's the best cooking class I've ever attended (even better--you can freeze and rewind a DVD. Try asking a cooking teacher in a class to back up.) The recipes are well-thought out (and tasty!), the instruction entertaining and easy-to-follow, and the tone down-to-earth. This show is about teaching you, not entertaining you with catch phrases and wacky food combinations. It acknowledges that you're not a gourmet chef with unlimited time, a pantry full of exotic ingredients, and a kitchen full of gadgets. Instead, they keep it real. Bow-tie clad Christopher Kimball is no one's idea of eye candy, but he's personable and warm, and he keeps the show grounded in the real world by asking questions, making suggestions, and adding to explanations. Everyone involved comes across as a real person, not a celebrity with an inflated ego.
The "hook" of America's Test Kitchen is that they try all sorts of different...

NBA Street Series, Vol. 5

Great NBA Action!
I am a fan of the Street Series DVD's. Vol. 5 just validates my opinion to the max. All the action and the coverage of these NBA superstars gets me jacked up for another NBA season. I love the piece on Kobe and Wade. Since Dirk won the title a lot of people have been jumping on his band waggon. I've been a fan for a while now of his talents and this DVD gives me the highlights and inside look that I'm looking for. Awesome, awesome DVD. Love it. Absolute 5 star buy.

Great New NBA Dvd !!
This volume 5 in the NBA Street series is an absolute amazing dvd. Great features on today's stars, such as Kobe Bryant, Dirk Nowitzki and Gilbert Arenas. Unlike some other dvd's, they really take their time to put the spotlight on these great stars. Not much talk, just A LOT of highlights and great stories !

My son loves this
I bought this for my teenage son, and he loves it. This is the 5th in a series of NBS Street Series DVD's. A bit of bio on some favorite players such as Kobe Bryant, Dirk Nowitzki, Kevin Garnett and Dwyane Wade are all here. Fancy footwork and game highlights galore. I recommend.

Best Baking Recipes: America's Test Kitchen

About 4 episodes worth of content.
This is not a must have DVD. It covers 9 recipes. Summer fruit tart, deep dish apple pie, classic white layer cake, chocolate mousse cake, corn muffins w/variations, creme brulee, classic brownies, spritz cookies, and molasses spice cookies.
We got this for the creme brulee recipe. and it looks great. We will try it soon and know it will come out fine because everything we have done from America's test kitchen does.
So it comes down to, are 9 recipes worth 11-18 dollars? Unless you need constant instruction every time you cook something, We don't think so.
Most of these recipes are available on their website or their subscription cooksillustrated website. not to mention their myriad volumes of cook books.
The equipment reviews seem to be pointless for a DVD. In 10 years none of the products will exist.

The printable recipes from your computer worked just fine from my OSX machine. which are all accessible through a HTML file that navigates well. Acrobat...

A Really Funny and Enjoyable Cooking Show
The first book I ever reviewed at Amazon was Cook's Illustrated's The Best Recipe. That book taught me how to write recipes. I didn't know that years later Christopher Kimball would have his own cooking show and that it would be the funniest cooking show I'd ever seen. Since I don't have cable TV or watch any regular TV either I just discovered these DVDs at Netflix. Call me old-fashioned but some things are worth the wait. I'm also at the place in my life where I have a Cuisinart Food processor and a Kitchen Aid Mixer. I've been using them and feeling like a chef. When watching this DVD I realized that pretty much every recipe requires either a food processor or mixer. So technically I would not have been able to make any of these recipes without them.

The recipes themselves? Well they are very precise. Everything seems based on science. The science of good cooking that is. You will learn a lot about technique, but even more importantly you will learn the exact brand of...

Instructional
As expected and excellent as always. Though could pack in some more recipes to justify the title and cost.

The reviews are good.

Perfect Strangers: The Complete First and Second Seasons

Great show makes its belated appearance on DVD
Perfect Strangers debuted to high ratings and critical praise in March 1986. Comfortably nestled between Who's the Boss? and Moonlighting on ABC's Tuesday night lineup while Growing Pains took a break, Perfect Strangers was hailed by critics as a refreshing blend of witty humor and slapstick delivery. Co-stars Mark Linn-Baker (Larry Appleton) and Bronson Pinchot (Balki Bartokomous) were lauded for their unmatched chemistry and comic talent. Comic legend Lucille Ball called it her favorite comedy. The show returned in the fall of 1986 on Wednesday nights paired with Head Of The Class, and continued to win its time slot. (It would be at least another two years before Perfect Strangers would become the centerpiece of ABC's TGIF Friday night lineup.)

The new...
